I used to wish I had someone - anyone - who would just listen and understand all my pains and frustrations. I didn't want to whine or make people think I was a baby. Despite the fact that I was strong and wanted everyone around me to think I was strong and that I had it all together, I still wanted to hear someone say, "I'm sorry. That sounds ______ (fill in the blank with what I was feeling that day)" or "You're okay. We got this." I needed a wise, experienced friend who wouldn't judge me. I needed someone to help me make sense of life and what I was experiencing. Unfortunately, I didn't have anyone like that in my life.
After countless heartaches, bad choices, nightmares, and counseling, I realized I am now that friend I needed years ago.
