Learning the Life Skill of Acceptance

What kind of parents did you have while growing up? Did you feel like you could trust them? Did you feel safe in their care? Many people grew up in homes where safety felt uncertain, and that can quietly shape the way we see God, ourselves, and life.
Parents tend to lean toward either too much control or too much distance, at least to some degree. If that sounds familiar, it can make complete sense that control feels so important now. You may even catch yourself wondering whether people, life, or even God can really be trusted. On some days, insecurity, fear, and anxiety can feel like they are running the show.
That’s where the life skill of acceptance begins to matter. Acceptance is not pretending life is easy or acting like pain doesn’t hurt. It is learning how to loosen our grip, trust God’s character, and receive His grace in the middle of what we cannot control.
But what if we had grown up with someone wise, safe, steady, and genuinely committed to our good? Can you imagine what it might feel like to move through life without insecurity, fear, and anxiety taking the driver’s seat?
One of the most common reasons people struggle to embrace the sovereignty of God is that they have never known what it feels like to trust someone who truly has the wisdom, power, love, and grace to be worthy of being in control. When we try to embrace God’s sovereignty without His grace, He can seem cold or unapproachable. When we try to embrace His grace without His sovereignty, He can seem permissive or less secure. But when we hold His sovereignty and grace together, we begin to see God as someone who is fully aware of our needs and fully able to guide providence for our good and according to His plans. In other words, He can keep us safe and on track through the whole roller coaster of life, so we can learn to breathe, trust, and even find joy in the scariest parts.
At Christian Care & Coaching, you can learn six basic life skills that support mental and emotional health, along with seven related spiritual characteristics of a spiritually healthy life. Some people treat physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health as separate categories, but both scientific and Biblical research point to how deeply connected they are. Christian Care & Coaching offers a holistic approach designed to help you experience hope in every part of life.
