Embracing the Christ Life
Learning the Life Skill of Committed Action

Compromising positions tempt us to live contrary to our values. Can you say no to compromising positions, or do you give in to the pressure? How do you feel when you compromise your values? Was it really worth not saying no?
Having values is… valuable (I couldn’t resist saying that), but how valuable are our values if we don’t actually live them?
When we enter our adolescent stage of development, we begin to question our beliefs, our place in society, and our purpose in life. Values may help answer some of those questions, but our actions either validate or invalidate those values. Without those answers, we might feel lost in the night or tossed on a tempestuous ocean. Even with those answers, if we do not act on them, we can continue to feel lost and tossed.
Look at the life of Christ. He knew who He was, where He fit in this world, and what His purpose was. He was the physical presence of God in this world. He submitted as a servant to His Heavenly Father. His purpose was to do the will of His Father. Not only did He know those truths, but He also lived them perfectly.
Most people seek validation because they need to know that they are where they belong and are doing what they should be doing. The ability to recognize and establish beneficial values—and then live according to them—is part of experiencing life in its most rewarding manner. For Christians, recognizing and embracing the mind of Christ, and then living according to that mind, can create a Heavenly sense of hope and fulfillment. It also helps us let go of what is beyond our control, become less influenced by non-beneficial factors, chase away loneliness and feelings of abandonment, and become more capable of navigating life like a professional river rafter instead of a person in a life preserver in the middle of a stormy ocean at night.
